In Her Eyes: For My Mother and My Daughter

FACT: There will always be that one song that can make you stop whatever you are doing and cry uncontrollably. For some, it might be their wedding song. Maybe "At Last" by Etta James? For others, it will be the song that reminds you of the night your first boyfriend broke up with you. (Forget a song, Jagged Little Pill was the pillow I cried on!)

Without fail, the song that makes me want to curl up in a fetal position and sob unashamedly is "In My Daughter's Eyes" by Martina McBride. I first heard the song when my mom sang it to me at my baby shower. It was beautiful and made everyone cry. My mother and I have always been close but we had a tumultuous stretch of trying times right before my daughter was conceived. (No thanks to that damn party girl!) Listening to her sing with tears in her eyes "Everything becomes a little clearer, I realize what life is all about, It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough, It's giving more when you feel like giving up" while cradling my stomach holding my unborn baby girl, no words can express how I felt at that moment. And now, while the little girl who "was sent to rescue me" runs her hand over my face and says "I love you, Mommy", the song has come full circle.

In my daughter's eyes, I see my mother. I love you both very much.

Two lovely ladies

P.S. Would love to know everyone's sob song. Also, what do YOU see in your child's eyes?

Love and Light, MARS

  1. I love reading your blogs. You are a very talented writer! Is that photo of your mom and daughter? Your mom is gorgeous!

My sob song, well, I'm a sap, so I have several but the one that gets me most is "Goodbye Time" by Blake Shelton. My divorce was the one of the hardest things I've ever gone through and this song puts all of that emotion to music. Of course the song that my husband (second husband) and I danced to (Chances Are by Bob Segar and Martina McBride) makes me cry happy tears. And then the sob song for my baby girl is "Smile" by Uncle Kracker.

Whew, sorry for the long and rambling comment!

  2. Aww, thank you Joy! Yes, that is my mom and daughter! She loved your gorgeous comment btw.

Please don't apologize for the long comment. I love to get feedback. I just "You-Tubed" your songs. I love them. I used to think I didn't care for country music but every time I hear a country song I'm drawn to it. Go figure!

  3. Mars, sometimes it takes a song to start tears in my eyes and I had no idea, until I scrolled down, that you added the Martina song, and your blog got me tearin up girl! You and I both know that so so many songs can make me cry. Right now I can share a song that everyone has heard of I'm sure but I call it my theme song. It really speaks out to me and always has. My parents have no clue that I get so emotional when I think about them and how I am going to give back and make a difference in their lives. I've been fighting so hard with what I've been doing lately and I am fighting to make that difference. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-3vPxKdj6o. Kelly Clarkson "Breakaway". Dang I need to wash my face now! I look so modes and I'm bout to see Dom LOL
